John Herring, Sr. is a native of Danville, IL. He has been in the field of Administration for over twenty years. He has been an advocate for teens, adults, families, homeless male veterans, and now he leads the Centers for Independent Living in the State of Illinois; advocating for individuals with disabilities. As an advocate, his goal has been and continues to be assisting individuals on their journey to become self-sufficient. In his current position he wants to make Illinois a “Best Practice” State for Centers of Independent Living, CIL’s. As an advocate for people with disabilities, his primary goal is to assist individuals striving for equity and equality achieve maximum independence in work, school, housing, transportation, and health care. John is also a Pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He is also a community activist. He is married to Patricia and they have three children and five adorable grandchildren.
